The most popular candy in Iceland (for 60 years!) is a Polish chocolate bar. It is estimated that Icelanders eat half a kilo of Prince Polo bars each year. How is it possible that a Polish chocolate bar is so popular in Iceland? The bars were first imported to Iceland in 1955. At that point in time, it was one of the only chocolate bars available in the country. There was an agreement between the Icelandic and Polish governments that allowed for imports from Poland into Iceland (at a time when very few imports were allowed). So, the next time you are in Iceland, enjoy some Polish chocolate!
